NexGen Builders Awards-Shortlisted Mentees
The NexGen Builders Award recognizes an individual or organization who puts into practice best practices identified by the Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Benchmarks (GDEIB,) standards for organizations around the world.
As a Mentee (individual), the nominee is a new construction pre-apprentice, apprentice or professional participating in a mentoring program and has experienced exceptional progress in taking the steps needed to succeed in their career.

Chinyere Johnson
Chinyere Johnson has excelled since moving to Canada. She continued her career in construction at EllisDon as an Assistant Project Manager where she worked for just over a year since her emigration from Trinidad however, she quickly outgrew that role and accepted the opportunity with Deloitte in her current role as manager of infrastructure and Capital Projects. Her hard work, dedication and multifaceted skill set has set her apart from her peers and facilitated her quick rise. As a highly skilled construction professional coming into a new market, she needed some guidance and encouragement to help understand this space and chart her path. Taking her mentors advice and advice from others, she has already broken through glass ceilings.

Noelondo Butler
Through training and development Noelondo has significantly increased the number of certifications needed to set him on track to becoming a well-rounded journeyperson. He has garnered positive attention from his superior as well as clients making him one of the top requested new hires. The attitude and attributes of this individual allowed him the opportunity to supervise a crew. His nominator states ”He has a reputation for fostering positive relationships with clients, contractors, and team members, demonstrating a commitment to collaboration and teamwork. He adheres to best practices and safety standards and contributes to completing projects on time.”

Tyriq Clarke
Although Tyriq was still a pre-apprentice, the company where he worked had enough confidence in him to assign him 1st term work. He has since completed his pre apprenticeship and is well underway into his 1st term of apprenticeship. Tyriq give backs. He often refers young people he knows who are in interested in the trades and has spoken to them at outreach events. He continues to be a great example on and off the job. His nominator states “He is the ultimate example of hard work: confident, prepared and an asset to his trade and the construction industry.”
